Learn to Skate


About the Program

The Panthers IceDen is proud to offer Learn to Skate USA classes which are endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, USA Speed skating and the Special Olympics curriculum.
 
Basic Skills teaches the FUNdamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating and hockey. Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating.
 

A Learn to Skate USA registration is included in your Skate School registration fees, this annual membership is required for all Learn to Skate classes.

Every Journey starts at the beginning…
Register for either Snowplow Sam 1 (6 & under) or Basic 1 (7+)
From there we will move your skater to the appropriate class for their skill level when they are ready

EXPLANATION OF CLASSES


SNOWPLOW SAM

Designed for kids under six to build confidence while learning to skate incorporating fun and games making class time an enjoyable experience for all.

BASIC SKILLS

Designed for kids seven and older.  These lessons put the FUN in fundamentals as your skaters enjoy learning the basics of ice skating.


FREE SKATE

Each Free Skate level is divided into three sections: skating skills, spins and jumps. The levels are designed to give skaters a strong foundation and it is at this point the skater can choose to pursue a recreational or competitive approach to the sport of figure.
 

ADULTS

The adult curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced adult skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. The program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper techniques.


HOCKEY 1-4

In the hockey program, skaters learn how to be proficient and agile on the ice. Designed to teach proper techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus. All elements are taught without a puck. Learning  basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, and other necessary fundamentals to be successful.


INTRO TO HOCKEY

Intro to Hockey is a class specially designed for those who have completed the Hockey 1-4 curriculum and are looking to further improve their skating skills. The focus in the class will shift from basic skating skills to more advanced skating skills, and skating with a stick in your hands.

This class is only available to those currently enrolled in Hockey Academy or with a Program Directors approval.
