Manager, Retail Operations - Florida Panthers Hockey Club (Coral Springs, FL)

Job Title: Manager, Retail Operations

Reports to: General Manager of Florida Panthers IceDen

Department: Retail Operations

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Retail Operations is a full-time staff position with the Panthers IceDen (PID) Retail Department. The role is intended to operate a dynamic, profitable retail operation that supports the goals of the Florida Panthers to increase exposure and awareness of the brand, while continuing to service our Hockey and Figure customers. The Manager of Retail Operations will be responsible for generating revenue through successful management of retail operations including store operations, buying and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and direct all aspects of Hockey and Figure to include but not limited to The Panthers Skating Academy, Learn to Play, Vanguard (recreational program), Florida Jr. Panthers (FJP) travel hockey, and Adult League.

  • Support financial, operational, and administrative functions to ensure smooth functioning of the buying department, including product flow, tracking, scheduling, and delivery of goods.

  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual operating budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

  • Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

  • Train new employees to provide first-class retail services to all guests.

  • Works with General Manager to control department expenses.

  • Develops an open to buy with Vendors while working within budgetary constraints.

  •  Oversee inventory management and regularly reviews product inventory mix.

  • Develops a sensible restocking plan with Director of Retail Operations, Pantherland Team Store.

  • Communicating with vendors and manufacturers and developing partnerships to ensure quality control and timely delivery of merchandise.

  • Lead buyer and planner to ensure product quantities align with target stock levels by store based on classification.

  • Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers.

  • Ensuring accuracy of purchase orders, open to buys, merchandising reports, allocation, and receipts.

  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with customer’s queries and complaints.

  • Create a shopping environment that incorporates unique and visually appealing displays while allowing space for heavy traffic flow.

  • Drive shrink results through compliance to all guidelines involved with safety, loss prevention, and cash-handling procedures.

  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and identify new vendors and suppliers as needed.

  • Coordinate with human resources department to recruit, interview, and hire a retail team.

  • Maintain a safe and clean retail environment.

  • Contributes to team effort by working with all departments within the organization to accomplish related results.

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as requested. ? Able to travel back and forth from Panthers IceDen to BB&T Arena.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business, merchandising or related field.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of retail industry experience as lead buyer.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management within a sports/entertainment environment, including buying and supervising direct reports, sales associates and back of house positions.

Qualifications

  • History of working with POS system Retail Pro a must

  • Knowledge of Hockey & Figure Brands, Equipment Fitting, and Skate Sharpening

  • Ability to create an aesthetic display for the retail store that is consistent with the brand through product selection and visual merchandising. Visual merchandising experience preferred.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks on time and within budget.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn other software systems.

  • Strong understanding of the sports and entertainment business and ability to prioritize and work around scheduling needs.

  • Detail oriented, well-organized, able to work independently on assigned tasks while under pressure.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate organizations to build relationships with outside vendors and across internal teams.

  • Must be customer focused, strong interpersonal skills.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented individual who can work well both independently and as part of a team.

  • Able to communicate effectively with children, parents, coaches, and other staff members.

  • Demonstrates creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds

  • Excellent ability to train and motivate staff and exhibit strong leadership skills

  • Polished presentation skills with the ability to communicate to clients and colleagues.

  • Flexibility to work all Panthers IceDen events, and irregular hours (late nights, weekends, and holidays) as required.

  • Must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing shifting priorities.
