Job Title:         Head of Athletic Performance

Reports to:     General Managers of Panthers IceDen

Department:   Panthers Center of Excellence

The Head of Athletic Performance is a full-time staff position with the Panthers IceDen Center of Excellence Department.  The Head of Athletic Performance is responsible for providing leadership and management for the Florida Panthers Center of Excellence strength and conditioning programs.  The Head of Athletic Performance is responsible for informing and educating all coaches and athletes regarding all policies and procedures integral to strength and conditioning. The incumbent will seek program input, design strength, and conditioning programs by sport and gender, mentor and supervise strength and conditioning staff and ensure the strength and conditioning program is engaged, profitable, and function at a high level. The Head of Athletic Performance will be responsible for generating revenue through successful management of the Panthers Center of Excellence including gym operations, buying and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, conducts and monitors strength and conditioning programs for sport performance programs and multiple adult clients
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual operating budget, scheduling expenditures, and analyzing variances
  • Coordinates client rehabilitation with the sports medicine department, therapists, and athletic training staff; assists with rehabilitation of injured clients
  • Responsible for overseeing all purchases, including memberships, supplies, equipment, and services.  -Also responsible for making sure equipment is in good working condition and making sure it is cleaned between each class/sports use
  • Oversees all facets of nutrition, supplementation, and sleep and supports the education for all clients
  • Oversees the coordinating, maintenance, and staffing of weight room/strength facility; responsible for identifying and purchasing needed strength and conditioning equipment; responsible for monitoring times and structure camps for the various athletic programs
  • Work with head coaches of the Florida Junior Panthers to design training programs that revolve around strength, conditioning and weight training geared towards youth hockey
  • Work with head coaches of the Panthers Figure Skating Club to develop training programs that revolve around strength, conditioning and weight training geared towards figure skating
  •  Observe training, practice, and performance and use observations in conjunction with athlete records to assess strengths and weaknesses and design programs accordingly
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and updated athlete records to track athlete progress.  Assist in the communication of this information with coaches and use athlete data to assess training programs for effectiveness.
  • Design and perform baseline tests to assess the skills and weaknesses of each athlete
  • Maintain a safe and clean Center of Excellence environment
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Nutrition or a related-field; supplemented with two (2) years of related experience
  • Current certification through one or more of the following organizations: NSCA (CSCS), CSCCa (SCCC), and AED/CPR/Standard First Aid Certification

Qualifications

  • Able to effectively articulate and instruct the mechanics of each movement. This includes the ability to focus on the most important points of performance before subtle or nuanced ones, and capacity to change instruction based on the athletes' needs and capacity
  • Able to discern right from poor movement mechanics and to identify both gross and subtle faults whether the athlete is in motion or static
  • Able to facilitate better mechanics for an athlete using visual, verbal and/or tactile cues. This includes the ability to triage (prioritize) faults in order of importance, which includes an understanding of how multiple failures are related
  • Able to organize and manage, both at the micro level (within each class) and macro gym level. This includes managing time well; organization of the space, equipment, and participants for optimal flow and experience
  • Able to create a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to an effective strength and conditioning program. Communicate effectively with children, parents, coaches and other staff members while staying customer focused
  • Skill in budget preparation and management, analyze and interpret financial and other data
  • Knowledge of skating programs
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn other software systems
  • Detail oriented, well-organized, able to work independently on assigned tasks while under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, proactive with a positive attitude.
  • Flexibility to work all Panthers IceDen events, and irregular hours (late nights, weekends, holidays) as required

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Retail Operations is a full-time staff position with the Panthers IceDen (PID) Retail Department. The role is intended to operate a dynamic, profitable retail operation that supports the goals of the Florida Panthers to increase exposure and awareness of the brand, while continuing to service our Hockey and Figure customers. The Manager of Retail Operations will be responsible for generating revenue through successful management of retail operations including store operations, buying and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and direct all aspects of Hockey and Figure to include but not limited to The Panthers Skating Academy, Learn to Play, Vanguard (recreational program), Florida Jr. Panthers (FJP) travel hockey, and Adult League.

  • Support financial, operational, and administrative functions to ensure smooth functioning of the buying department, including product flow, tracking, scheduling, and delivery of goods.

  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual operating budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

  • Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

  • Train new employees to provide first-class retail services to all guests.

  • Works with General Manager to control department expenses.

  • Develops an open to buy with Vendors while working within budgetary constraints.

  •  Oversee inventory management and regularly reviews product inventory mix.

  • Develops a sensible restocking plan with Director of Retail Operations, Pantherland Team Store.

  • Communicating with vendors and manufacturers and developing partnerships to ensure quality control and timely delivery of merchandise.

  • Lead buyer and planner to ensure product quantities align with target stock levels by store based on classification.

  • Identifies current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers.

  • Ensuring accuracy of purchase orders, open to buys, merchandising reports, allocation, and receipts.

  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with customer’s queries and complaints.

  • Create a shopping environment that incorporates unique and visually appealing displays while allowing space for heavy traffic flow.

  • Drive shrink results through compliance to all guidelines involved with safety, loss prevention, and cash-handling procedures.

  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and identify new vendors and suppliers as needed.

  • Coordinate with human resources department to recruit, interview, and hire a retail team.

  • Maintain a safe and clean retail environment.

  • Contributes to team effort by working with all departments within the organization to accomplish related results.

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as requested. ? Able to travel back and forth from Panthers IceDen to BB&T Arena.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business, merchandising or related field.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of retail industry experience as lead buyer.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management within a sports/entertainment environment, including buying and supervising direct reports, sales associates and back of house positions.

Qualifications

  • History of working with POS system Retail Pro a must

  • Knowledge of Hockey & Figure Brands, Equipment Fitting, and Skate Sharpening

  • Ability to create an aesthetic display for the retail store that is consistent with the brand through product selection and visual merchandising. Visual merchandising experience preferred.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks on time and within budget.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with the ability to quickly learn other software systems.

  • Strong understanding of the sports and entertainment business and ability to prioritize and work around scheduling needs.

  • Detail oriented, well-organized, able to work independently on assigned tasks while under pressure.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate organizations to build relationships with outside vendors and across internal teams.
