Hockey Director - Florida Panthers Hockey Club (Coral Springs, FL)


Job Title: Hockey Director

Reports to: General Manager of Florida Panthers IceDen

Department: Florida Panthers IceDen Hockey Department

POSTION SUMMARY: The Florida Panthers with new ownership and management are striving to grow hockey in South Florida. We are looking for an experienced, determined individual who can help our hockey programs reach the next level. We are committed to building outstanding youth and adult hockey programs for players of all ages and abilities, from Vanguard (recreational players) to the most elite levels. The Hockey Director will be responsible for the direction, administration, management, supervision and marketing of all ice hockey programming needs of the Florida Panthers IceDen.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and direct all aspects of Hockey to include but not limited to Learn to Play, Vanguard (recreational program), Florida Jr. Panthers (FJP) travel hockey, and Adult League.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to increase revenue for the Florida Panthers IceDen through the creation of new programming, tournaments, budget assumptions and budget analysis (month to month, year to year).
  • Direct, recruit, train, evaluate and supervise all Florida Panthers IceDen hockey staff and coaches (Full-Time, volunteer and independent contractors) to include FJP team managers. Ensure all coaches have fulfilled USA Hockey & SAHOF coaching certifications and modules each season.
  • Ensure that the Florida Panthers IceDen is promoting age-appropriate skill development at all levels within the hockey program.
  • Know the SAHOF rules and communicate these rules to coaches and team managers.
  • Coordinate with the Ice Scheduler in assignment of all ice times across all teams and levels within the hockey program.
  • Direct and evaluate all ice hockey instruction for the FJP travel hockey program.
  • Coordinate with the Head of Athletic Performance in the Panthers Center of Excellence for all off-ice training for FJP travel hockey participants.
  • Direct the planning, organizing and marketing of all ice hockey programs.
  • Organize and support USA Hockey Coaches and Officials clinics operating out of the Florida Panthers IceDen.
  • Hold periodic coaches meetings.
  • Coordinate special ordering of ice hockey equipment and uniforms through the Florida Panthers IceDen pro shop.
  • Establish working relationships with outside ice hockey groups who can further enhance the mission of the Florida Panthers IceDen.
  • Attend regional and national conferences/meetings yearly.
  • Direct all day-to-day hockey schools and camps administrative responsibilities.
  • Develop a continuity book for the hockey department.
  • Develop strong working relationships with partner rinks to help grow youth hockey throughout the South Florida community
  • Tournament director for all in house hockey tournaments.
  • Event coordinator for outside groups who use the Panthers IceDen for hockey activities.
  • Works directly with General Manager of Panthers IceDen and Florida Panthers Hockey Department to grow the game through NHL player/team interaction.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in sports management (or related field) desired with 5 years of experience in ice related sports and activities.
  •  Able to communicate effectively with children, parents, coaches, staff members, and other hockey organizations across the South Florida community.
  •  Experience in ice hockey instructing and officiating, with knowledge of other ice related sports, and activities.
  •  Coaching/ team management background, preferred.
  •  Must be enthusiastic and energetic with strong interpersonal skills.
  •  Provide excellent customer service that creates lasting relationships with players and parents.
  •  Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  •  Detail oriented, well organized, able to work independently on assigned tasks, and works well under pressure.
  •  USA Hockey coaching certification.
  •  Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Maxgalaxy preferred, with the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
  •  Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Athletic Performance Assistant - Florida Panthers Hockey Club (Coral SPrings, FL)

Job Title:       Athletic Performance Assistant

Reports to:     Head of Athletic Performance

Department:  Panthers Center of Excellence
 

The Athletic Performance Assistant position is a contracted position within the Florida Panthers Center of Excellence Department.  The role is intended to serve as an assistant for the Head of Athletic Performance on all duties that he requires. The Panthers Center of Excellence emphasizes development, sportsmanship, mutual respect, fair play and parity for all athletes.  We are committed to providing fun, competitive and quality training in a safe environment. This fellowship is a position for recent graduates who wish to gain purposeful experience in the private sector while also creating connections within a professional sports organization.


Assistant Duties (All Levels)

  • Assist with team and individual programming/training for the athletes.
  • Monitor and lead training sessions with the athletes.
  • Ensure that all scheduled training times are adhered to and that the client base understands that time frame.
  • Educate athletes on proper lifting technique and nutrition guidelines.
  • See Head of Athletic Performance for athletes who are disrespectful for disciplinary action.
  • Understand Point of Sale system and monitor beverages that are being taken.
  • Have a service minded approach when trying to get people to sign up for gym class memberships.
  • Ensure members and athletes respect the gym and gym equipment.
  • Keep an orderly and clean workstation.
  • Take initiative and clean items without the Head of Athletic Performance having to ask.
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Head of Athletic Performance
  • Be able to work mornings, nights, and weekends as asked.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have or working towards a bachelor’s degree in a related field of study of strength and conditioning.

  • CPR and First Aid certified or gets certified within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science

  • Working towards a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science or a similar applicable field of study

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS)

  • Functional Movement Screen Level 1 (FMS)

  • USA Weightlifting Level 1 (USAW)

  • CPR and First Aid Certified
